What is Medicare

Americans as well as other eligible individuals have access to the Medicare health insurance program, which has two parts, Part A and Part B.

What’s Medicare?

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for: People who are 65 or older. Certain younger people with disabilities. People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD) www.medicare.gov

Who is qualified for Medicare?

Generally, Medicare is available for people age 65 or older, younger people with disabilities and people with End Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant). Medicare has two parts, Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medicare Insurance). www.hhs.gov

What are the parts of Medicare?

A & B Premiums

  • Most people don’t pay a monthly premium for Part A.
  • If you don’t qualify for premium-free Part A, you can buy Part A.
  • Everyone pays a monthly premium for Part B.

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance)

Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance)

Part B covers things like: Clinical research, Ambulance services, Durable medical equipment (DME), Mental health, Inpatient, Outpatient and Partial hospitalization.

Medicare Part C
(Medicare Advantage)

Most Medicare Advantage Plans offer coverage for things Original Medicare doesn’t cover, like some vision, hearing, dental, and fitness programs (like gym memberships or discounts).

Medicare Part D (Prescription Drugs)

Part D (Medicare drug coverage) helps cover cost of prescription drugs, may lower your costs and protect against higher costs.

Part C – Medicare Advantage

“All-in-One” insurace: covers Parts A, B, & D

$0 to low cost plans beyond the Part B premium 

Can include added benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, transportation, health club membership, over-the-county drug benefits and more.

  • $1316 deductible per 60 day benefit period
  • Covers doctor visits, preventive services, ambulance, ER visits, outpatient procedures, durable medical equipment (DME), etc.
  • $134 monthly premium (typically)
  • $ 183 annual deductible
  • Covers 80% of allmedical costs
  • Presecrption drug coverage
  • $35 average montly preumium
  • deductibles and copays depend on plan selection
